Being African born, I grew up with the bold flavors of East and West African cuisine, which share similarities with Caribbean flavors.
A few months ago, I opened Maddy’s Food Hub with a mission to bring the taste of home to African immigrants and refugees in Concord and beyond. Our community was longing for a local spot to savor these beloved flavors.
In addition to the restaurant, I also own Maddy’s African Market, where you can find traditional African spices, vegetables, meats, and pre-made meals. Shoppers from Vermont and Concord visit us for authentic products.
My journey from market to restaurant was driven by demand. I outgrew the market space, and the opportunity to start a restaurant came about unexpectedly.
The journey hasn’t been without its challenges, from licenses to financing. I aim to be a model for other Black entrepreneurs in the city who face similar obstacles.
I believe that my cooking can unite people and break down barriers. I want our dishes to make the community feel connected and understood. I want the youth to see that they can achieve their dreams, too.
Named in New Hampshire Magazine as “The cozy café on Ford Eddy Road is cheerful and welcoming, with fun décor and vibrant foods to match. With a menu full of traditional African foods and flavors, (like jerk chicken, jallof rice, and fish banku),” Maddy’s Food Hub invites you to embark on a culinary adventure that’s as visually stimulating as it is flavorful.
